Currency Converter

Type an amount, pick your currencies, and the converter does the rest using reference rates from the European Central Bank. You can edit either side, swap directions with one click, and watch how the pair has moved over the last 90 days.

Rates by the European Central Bank, refreshed every 15 minutes.

How this math works

All rates are quoted against the US dollar. To convert between any two currencies the tool divides your amount by the dollar rate of the currency you are starting from, then multiplies by the dollar rate of the one you want. That gives the same mid market rate banks use between themselves.

Mid market means there is no markup baked in. The number you see here is the fair midpoint, which is why it usually looks better than what a bank, card, or airport kiosk will quote you. The difference between this rate and their rate is what the conversion really costs you.

Common questions

How fresh are these rates?

Our worker refreshes them from the European Central Bank reference feed every 15 minutes. The ECB itself publishes new reference rates once each business day, so weekend numbers carry over from Friday.

Why is my bank’s rate different?

Banks and card networks add a spread or a fee on top of the mid market rate. Comparing their quote to the rate here shows you exactly how much you are paying for the conversion.

Which currencies are included?

Every currency the European Central Bank publishes reference rates for, which covers more than 30 of the most traded currencies in the world, plus the US dollar as the base.
